Montana Fibers

We are proud to stock Montana's own Sweet Grass Wool. This soft, all natural wool comes from Targhee sheep enjoying life on the Green ranch near Melville, Montana, with a stunning view of the Crazy Mountains. Targhee is a breed that is mostly raised in Montana and Wyoming; it was bred specially for our severe winters. It's fine, soft wool is available in natural dark brown, natural gray and natural creamy white.

Another Montana business that we are very proud of is the wonderful hand-dyeworks, Mountain Colors, located in Corvallis, Montana, in the heart of the Bitterroot Valley. Here their talented and hard-working staff turn yarns of all types into the most glorious array of colors imaginable. We try to keep a good supply of Mountain Colors yarns but they are difficult to keep in stock! Please call for current availability of:

  • 4/8's Wool: an all-purpose worsted weight wool
  • Weaver's Wool: a sport- to light-worsted weight wool, sold in 1 lb. hanks or 1/4 lb skeins
  • Mountain Goat: a mohair/wool blend with incredible sheen
  • Montana 3-Ply: a super-soft bulky weight wool
  • Moguls: a highly textural nubby wool
  • Mohair Loop: large loop mohair boucle
  • Crepe: very fine, kinky yarn; great for knitting or weaving
  • Merino Ribbon: a light and soft wool ribbon
  • Bearfoot: wonderful sock yarn; 25% mohair gives a sheen and added strength
  • Homespun: a gorgeous thick & thin yarn with 15% silk
  • Twizzle: new in the fall of '05, this wool, wrapped with a silk thread takes dye like no other - glorious!
  • Cashmere- handle with caution, extremely addictivc
  • Wooly Feathers: the fun, fluffy yarn for natural fiber lovers: 65% mohair/35% nylon

For more detailed descriptions of these yarns, and to see the colorways, visit on the Mountain Colors website.
